Singapore’s pandemic response has been hailed as a global success story. After it recorded its first case on Jan. 23, the country engaged in aggressive contact tracing to quickly identify and isolate any new cases. It managed to keep its economy open and did not implement an extreme lockdown like many other Southeast Asian countries, although it closed its borders to possible virus carriers. Ample testing and treatment were free for residents.
